You may know if you've followed me on instagram for a while, or just know me as a person, I suffer with Rosacea. Rosacea (if you don't know) is a chronic skin condition that primarily affects the face, leading to redness. I have type two rosacea which causes raised texture and sometimes quite angry spots mainly to my cheeks and chin. Â
I only really noticed this after I had Amelia 6 years ago and after doing a bit of research (I love research!) it seemed to be quite a common cause, although there's no cure, yipee...
I've tried over the years to find skincare products to help "get rid" of the bumps and redness but other than helping conceal it or calm it down, nothing really helped. If anything, some things that promised to help, actually made it worse. Although there are lots of different triggers such as stress and the food or drink you consume as well as the weather, so it could have been a combination of things.
Anyway, I promised you'd I'd tell you about what happened when I made a skincare "mistake". I was actually quite shocked by the results as it went against anything I've been told and tell people to do but it also made me realise something too.Â
So a bit of background, I was bedridden for a few days a few weeks ago after I caught the dreaded stomach bug from Amelia. I could barely get out of bed let alone do a skincare routine. For the first time in I don't know when, I didn't wash my face AT ALL for about 3/4 days - yuk! (I had showers but I don't wash my face in the shower, that's another tip for another day!) But what happened after those 4 days of leaving my face alone and free of products...it DRAMATICALLY cleared up!! I couldn't believe it! What i actually showed me though, that less is more sometimes when you have sensitive skin. Letting my skin do it's own thing and not disrupting the barrier really helped it have a break and actually, it looked so much better for it.
So the main thing I've taken away from this and will continue to do and tell you to do, is don't get caught up with all the different skincare products! What works for your skin and your face, is totally unique. I am more than happy to discuss what products I think will be beneficial but these will always be gentle with no harsh chemicals because I just don't think it's necessary. I'm proof of that!
By the way this is by no means me saying skip skincare and never wash your face, please don't, it's simply to say don't overload your skin with too many products as it could do the opposite of what you are trying to achieve.
