Thinking outside the box: The rise of quirky weddings

carter-weddings

This weekend I attended the 'Quirky Wedding Fayre', and as soon as I saw it advertised on Instagram, I just knew it was the perfect fit for me and my business.

I rebranded last year

For those of you who don’t know, I rebranded last year (2023) to bring my hair and makeup work more in line with different aspects of my personality and interests. I’ve always had a bit of a quirky/alternative side. It’s not very bold, but it’s there, and I wanted that to be reflected in my work because it's what truly speaks to me to help people bring out their - buzz word incoming - "authentic" side. It's not until I started exploring what truly mattered to me, and what made me happy reproducing, that I started to get clarity on who I wanted and needed to attract to get the best out of my skills, creativity and job satisfaction.

People who weren't scared to go a little outside the box

While the modern soft glam bridal look is beautiful and often does look stunning, I found myself feeling uninspired by recreating the same styles over and over. I needed a fresh approach – something that felt more in line with the brides and wedding clients I wanted to attract. People who weren't scared to go a little outside the box and be a little different with their styling choices.

The Quirky Wedding Fayre turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. From the unique suppliers to the couples attending, I felt completely at home, like I was surrounded by my people. It may sound cheesy, but it’s true – there’s nothing quite like being in a space where your individuality is celebrated and appreciated and that's what I've lacked for the first maybe 35 years of my life (I'm 38 now). I wore a big tulle skirt and my leather jacket, I even dyed my dolly heads hair bright pink for the fayre and felt so happy in myself! Usually I get a huge headache by the end of a wedding fayre but I was absolutely buzzing all the way home.

Everyone I spoke to at the wedding fayre inspired me

Everyone I spoke to at the wedding fayre inspired me with their plans, from their wedding dress ideas to their venue choices. I left feeling excited and happy that I was amongst people who truly understood that being a little bit different is ok! They were all there for that exact reason, to do something a little different for their wedding day.

As you'll read in my previous blogs The face behind the smile and Embracing your unique bridal style. these both explain the "journey" (another buzz word sorry!) I've been through to get me to where I am now.

I'm so excited to attract more quirky peeps moving forward! So if you're into anything ethereal, boho or alternative then I'm ya girl!
