Your undertone is the subtle hue that's under your skins surface. Whether you see a pinkish, yellowish, or somewhere in between when you look in the mirror, this can help you determine whether you have a cool, warm, or neutral undertone. Understanding your undertone is key when picking makeup shades, as the right colours can really bring out the best in your complexion and especially your eyes!
Determine Your Undertone
There are three main undertones: cool, warm, and neutral. To figure out which one you have...
Check Your Veins
One of the simplest ways to find your undertone is by looking at the veins on the inside of your wrist.
If your veins appear blue or purple, you most likely have a cool undertone.
If your veins look more greenish, you probably have a warm undertone.
If you see a mix of both, or you can’t quite tell, you could have a neutral undertone.
What’s your jewellery preference?
Do you naturally gravitate towards silver or gold jewellery? Believe it or not, this can be a great clue!
Cool undertones usually look better in silver jewellery.
Warm undertones tend to look best in gold.
If both look equally good, or you don’t have a strong preference, you’re likely to have a neutral undertone. I wear gold rings on one hand, and silver or white gold on the other!
How Does Your Skin React to the Sun?
Pay attention to how your skin behaves in the sun.
If you burn easily, chances are you have a cool undertone.
If you tan easily, you probably have a warm undertone.
If you burn and then tan, or do a bit of both, you might have a neutral undertone.
Understanding your undertone will not only help you pick the right lippie but also guide you in choosing flattering shades for eyeshadow, blush, and even clothes. So next time you're out shopping for makeup, give these tips a try and experiment with colours that complement your undertone!
